What kind of announcements do the Captain make on aeroplanes?

There are a great many things a Captain of a specific flight either must or will tell both the passengers and the crew working in the cabin. Some of it is safety related and must always be done, and others are a service. Most companies have only a few rules regarding the announcement that is done just after boarding, and it is mostly a service to introduce both the crew and tell the passengers about the flight. Personally, I always make sure to brief the passengers on where we are going, you would be surprised but, I does happen that people manage to get onboard a flight where they are not supposed to be! Although it is rare  Announcements are also to make the passengers feel safe, this could be during a patch of rough air, or turbulence.

An example:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, I would like to welcome you onboard this flight bound for Paris, on flight Y124, operated by Ask Airlines. My name is Kukka and along with my colleague Soren we have calculated a flight time of 1:15 minutes in nice flying conditions. (Additional information added here if there are special circumstances like delays, and the reason why we have or expect them) Joining us in the cabin, our fantastic colleges, you have already met them, Martin, Anders and Rene, primally to look after your safety and comfort. Once you are comfortably seated, they will demonstrate some of the safety equipment and procedures on this aeroplane type, please pay close attention, thank you. When we get closer to our destination, my colleague will return with the latest weather and landing time, we wish you a pleasant flight with us, once again, welcome onboard.”

The Captain will mostly do a welcome announcement and sometimes the First officer while the rest will be done by the cabin crew. There are a great many different other announcements that can be made, but it would take a long time to write them all!

It is not at all uncommon that the first officer makes these announcements, as it is both a good way to teach them how, but also makes the work environment on the flight deck pleasant when both pilots share all the tasks for a normal flight.
