Travelling by air and spread of deceases
Travelling by air and the spread of deceases
A question we get a lot during Covid, was if Air Travel was safe during the Covid-19 outbreak. Short answer – yes we believe it is.
From what we have seen and experienced it was possible to travel by air and keep Covid-19 guidelines. In the early days of the Covid-19 outbreak, we made a video about travelling during the covid-19 outbreak.
What do the Authorities state about the spread of diseases onboard an aeroplane?
During Covid The IATA (International Air Travel Agency) stated:
“Be reassured that the risk of contracting COVID-19 on board a flight is very low”
Of course, some will ask, what is “very low”? This is a statement from IATA’s Medical Advisor, Dr. David Powell:
“With only 44 identified potential cases of flight-related transmission among 1.2 billion travellers, that’s one case for every 27 million travellers. We recognize that this may be an underestimate but even if 90% of the cases were unreported, it would be one case for every 2.7 million travellers. We think these figures are extremely reassuring.”

Is travelling by air more dangerous in terms of the spread of a decease?
You could argue that travelling by air, going through the terminal, etc. is down to the same principles as many of us have got used to in our everyday life. For example when we are out shopping or using public transportation. There is therefore perhaps a lack of justification to say Air Travel is more contagious than other forms of public travelling.
We do understand why some may still feel anxious about travelling. Maybe in particular if you already had a fear of flying. We have created a free YouTube movie trying to explain the noises and procedures onboard aeroplanes. It has already been viewed by more than 100.000. The might help you find some comfort. You can access the video here:
We also have a fear of flying training product suited for those with a busy lifestyle and designed to keep cost low. You can take a look at it here.
If there is anything you are worried about in regard to travelling by air or a fear of flying, we will be happy to answer your questions and try to help.
