How to answer cadet pilot interview question

Cadet pilot interview question

During a cadet pilot interview, when asked “Jump in a hole, or dig a hole and jump” what would be a great answer?

This is for sure not a very common cadet pilot interview question, but this is our thinking and advice. If you jump in a hole you have not dug yourself you are basically running a risk as you have little idea of how deep the hole is and what is inside etc. If you jump into a hole you have created yourself you know what to expect landing-wise, how deep it is, and you have time to prepare etc.

The other take on it could be this:

If you jump into a hole you have not dug yourself it could be seen as you are quick at making a call. The downside of it is that equally you could be seen as someone who doesn’t like to work (do it yourself).

I think our advice is that when you answer questions like this during an interview, you should also explain the thinking behind your answer. That way the interviewer will be able to judge your character better – which interviews are usually all about.

It is the type of question that is also designed to baffle you a little and see how you react. We like to help all levels of pilots with interview and assessment training and you can find out more here.

Happy landings
